The Babadook

Since the death of her husband Oskar while driving her to the hospital to give birth, Amelia has raised her son Samuel alone. Samuel is preoccupied with magic tricks, bedtime stories, and building homemade weapons to fight imaginary monsters.

Amelia is forced to take her son out of school due to his ongoing behavioral problems. Sam’s issues also complicate Amelia’s budding romance with nursing home coworker Robbie. Samuel asks his mother to read from a mysterious pop-up storybook found on his shelf called, “Mister Babadook.” The book tells of a supernatural monster that cannot be dismissed once someone is made aware of its existence. After hearing the story, Sam becomes convinced that the Babadook has started stalking him and his mother.

Amelia attributes strange events occurring throughout the house to Sam acting out, although Sam insists that the Babadook is real. Amelia rips up the “Mister Babadook” book and disposes of it in the trash bin outside. At his cousin Ruby’s birthday party, Sam pushes Ruby out of a treehouse and accidentally breaks her nose in two places after she teases Sam for not having a dad and for refusing to believe in the Babadook. Meanwhile, Amelia’s sister Claire admits to Amelia that she cannot stand to be around Samuel, and suspects that Amelia feels the same way. Sam has a seizure after experiencing a vision of the monster. Amelia convinces a doctor to prescribe sedatives to help Sam sleep, and also some for herself so that she may finally get some rest. Amelia hears knocking at the door and finds the repaired “Mister Babadook” storybook on the front step. She reads a passage about how the monster becomes stronger the more someone denies its existence and sees new pop-ups that depict her strangling Sam.

Amelia burns the book on the outdoor grill.

After a strange phone call, Amelia goes to the police to report a stalker, but realizes that she sounds delusional. Prue and Warren from the Department of Community Services come to Amelia’s house to inspect Samuel’s home life. Amelia thinks she sees the Babadook stalking her neighbor Mrs. Roach. As more unexplainable events and strange visions occur, Amelia gradually comes to believe that the Babadook is haunting her and her son, and that she is becoming possessed.

With her mind cracking, Amelia shows signs of intending to inflict harm on Samuel. Sam stabs her and leads Amelia into the booby-trapped basement where he captures her amongst stored items belonging to Oskar. Amelia coughs up a black substance and escapes. An invisible force pulls Samuel throughout Amelia’s bedroom. The Babadook appears and Amelia threatens it to not harm her son. The Babadook collapses and its spirit retreats to the cellar. Some time later, Amelia and Sam collect worms from the backyard. Amelia unlocks the cellar door and brings the bowl of worms down for the Babadook to eat. Afterward, Amelia prepares a proper party for Sam on his actual birthday.

Horns

Ig Perrish's girlfriend, Merrin, is raped and murdered, leaving him the prime suspect and shunned by the community. After unsuccessfully defending himself, Ig wakes up one morning with large horns protruding from his forehead. He soon discovers that good people do not notice the horns, but they are revealing their darkest secrets in his presence. While under anesthesia at the doctor's office, Ig dreams about himself and his friends including Lee, who is now his lawyer, and Eric, Glenna, and his brother, Terry. Lee introduced Ig to Merrin, whom he first noticed in church. Merrin accidentally broke the cross on her necklace, but Lee repairs it. Realizing Ig likes Merrin, he trades him the necklace for a cherry bomb. Ig gives the cross back to Merrin, beginning their relationship. The cherry bomb later goes off in Lee's hand, putting him in the hospital.

Back in the present, Ig begins embracing his horns' power, manipulating the behavior of those around him. However, his efforts lead him no closer to discovering Merrin's killer. It's revealed that on the night she was murdered Merrin ended their relationship, leaving him heartbroken and suspicious she loved someone else.

Ig confronts Terry, and through skin contact, can read Terry's mind; Terry drove Merrin home the night she was killed, but she exited into the woods. Terry fell asleep waiting for her to return, and woke up the next morning holding a blood-stained rock. He removed any evidence linking him to her murder. Shocked by his revelations, Ig brutally beats Terry, and is arrested by Eric, who is now a policeman. Ig notices that snakes are following him, and he can control them to attack and punish people.

The next day, Ig tells Lee what has been happening. Lee has been unable to see Ig's horns and is unaffected by their manipulative influence. When Ig notices Lee is wearing Merrin's cross, he rips it off. The cross had been shielding Lee from Ig's horns but he now succumbs to their power. By touching Lee's skin, Ig sees the night of the murder. Lee followed Merrin into the woods where he declared his love for her, she rebuffs him by saying she loves only Ig. Angered, Lee raped and murdered her, then fled, then attempted to frame Terry. Back in the present, Ig is overpowered and badly injured by Lee, who sets him on fire inside his car. Tortured by the flames, Ig drives his car into the water and presumably drowns. Lee tells people that Ig confessed to the murder and committed suicide. Ig survives the incident due to his powers, though is badly scarred and mutilated. He goes to Merrin's embittered father, who gives him a key with Ig's name on it; a gift left by Merrin before her death. Ig then wears Merrin's cross, which heals his burns and removes his horns. He takes the key to his and Merrins childhood tree house and unlocks a secret storage compartment.

There is letter from Merrin that reveals that she had cancer and she knew he was going to propose to her soon. She wanted more than anything to be his wife but to spare Ig the pain of seeing her slowly die, she split up with him under a pretense. Though heartbroken, Ig is overjoyed that Merrin still loved him. He confronts Lee and demands he go to the police and confess his guilt. Terry and Eric also arrive, having learned the truth and realising Lee murdered Merrin. Lee agrees to confess, but while Eric escorts him at gunpoint, Lee manages to seize the gun, kill Eric, and badly wound Terry. As Lee prepares to kill Ig, Ig tears Merrin's cross from his neck and transforms into a satanic, demon-like monster, summoning his army of snakes to kill Lee. Ig begins dying from his wounds and spends his last moments with Terry, before turning into stone. In the end, Ig and Merrin are reunited in heaven.

Before I Go To Sleep

Forty-year-old Christine Lucas wakes up in bed with a man she does not know, in an unfamiliar house. The man explains that he is her husband, Ben, and that she suffered brain damage from a car accident ten years earlier. Christine wakes up every morning with no memory of her life from her early twenties onwards.

Christine receives treatment from Dr. Nasch, a neurologist at a local hospital who gives her a camera to record her thoughts and progress each day, and calls her every morning to remind her to watch the video in the camera. Dr. Nasch instructs Christine to keep the camera hidden from Ben and reveals that her memory loss occurred after she was attacked and left for dead near an airport hotel. They surmise that Ben tells Christine it was a car accident to avoid upsetting her.

Over the course of treatment, Christine faintly remembers a red-haired woman named Claire. Ben tells her that Claire was a friend who couldn't handle Christine's condition and ended contact with her. Later, Christine recalls that she had a son. She angrily confronts Ben over hiding their child, but he says their son died of meningitis when he was eight. Christine remembers the name Mike and believes it may be the name of her attacker.

Christine learns that, several years after her attack, Ben had placed her in an assisted care facility and divorced her, then had a change of heart and brought her home to live with him. Christine learns that Claire had been trying to contact her at the care facility, unaware that Ben took her away. Christine obtains Claire's phone number and meets her. Claire reveals that Christine had embarked on an affair prior to her attack, while Ben and Claire had a one-time sexual encounter, due to their shared grief at Christine's memory loss. Feeling obliged to keep Ben and Christine's marriage intact, Claire ended contact.

Out of gratitude for his love and care, Christine decides to let Ben see the videos she has made on the digital camera. However, Ben angrily accuses Christine of having an affair with Dr. Nasch, strikes her, and storms out. On the telephone, Claire tells Christine that Ben claims to not have seen Christine for several years. Claire asks Christine to describe the "Ben" she is living with, and they realize he is not Ben. Christine attempts to escape the house, but "Ben" renders her unconscious.

The next morning, Christine again awakens with no memories. That night, "Ben" takes her to a hotel close to where she had been found. He reveals that he is Mike, the man she had an affair with. Mike had wanted Christine to reveal their affair to Ben, but Christine refused, and their argument culminated in Mike attacking Christine, resulting in her amnesia. He also inadvertently reveals that Christine's son Adam is still alive. Declaring his love for Christine, Mike deletes the videos on her camera and states that he is no longer interested in playing the part of Ben. He demands that Christine leave with him. Another struggle ensues, but this time Christine knocks Mike out and gets away.

Christine wakes up in a hospital bed and is visited by Dr. Nasch. He assures her the man responsible for her condition has been arrested. Christine is then visited by the real Ben, as well as their son Adam, now a teenager.

Interstellar

In the near future, Earth is no longer able to sustain humanity. Crops are routinely ravaged by blight,[5] dust storms scour the land, and mankind has regressed to an agrarian society. Cooper, a former NASA test pilot and engineer turned farmer lives with his family: his father-in-law, Donald; his son, Tom; and his 10-year-old daughter, Murphy — better known as "Murph" — who believes their house is haunted by a ghost that is trying to communicate with her by moving books off a shelf in her room. Cooper challenges Murph to prove the ghost's existence through scientific inquiry. He later discovers the "ghost" is an unknown form of intelligence sending them coded messages by means of gravitational waves, altering the dust on the floor in a binary pattern that directs them to the coordinates of a secret NASA installation led by Professor Brand.

Brand reveals to Cooper that a wormhole has been discovered in the solar system orbiting Saturn, and that humanity's only chance for survival is to traverse the wormhole to colonise new worlds in another galaxy. NASA scientists believe that extra-dimensional beings are communicating with them and have created the wormhole for humanity's use. Cooper is recruited to pilot Endurance, an experimental spacecraft, to follow the Lazarus Mission, a series of manned capsules sent through the wormhole to survey a dozen potential planets' long-term habitability. The data from Lazarus has given NASA three potentially habitable planets: Miller, Edmunds, and Mann, named after the astronauts who carried out the surveys. Once their viability is confirmed, humanity will follow aboard the NASA facility, which is an enormous space station.

Cooper's decision to join Endurance breaks Murph's heart, and the two part on bad terms. He joins Brand's daughter, Amelia; physicist Romilly; geographer Doyle; and two multi-purpose robots — designated CASE and TARS — on a two-year spaceflight to the wormhole before crossing over into the new galaxy. While traversing the wormhole, Amelia encounters an extra-dimensional presence that she believes has created the wormhole to save humanity.

Once through, Endurance follows the signal left by Miller's expedition, but they quickly encounter a problem: the candidate planet is in close proximity to Gargantua, a nearby rotating black hole, and due to its gravitational pull, time on the planet is much slower than on Earth. They discover that the planet is inhospitable as giant tidal waves race across its surface. Doyle is killed by a wave as the crew attempts to retrieve Miller's data recording instrument, and their departure is delayed by an hour. They discover 23 years have passed for Romilly on Endurance when they return.

Back on Earth, Murph is now an adult and has joined NASA where she attempts to solve a physics problem that has troubled Brand for years: the question of how humans can escape Earth's gravitational pull en masse. Brand's health deteriorates, and he admits that he solved the necessary equation decades earlier but realised that he needed data from a singularity behind a black hole to complete it. Coming to the conclusion that there is no hope that humanity can escape Earth, he put his faith in a "population bomb", a mass repopulation project using fertilised embryos to start humankind over, a solution which sacrifices Earth's population.

With the lengthy mission to retrieve Miller's data having consumed valuable resources, Endurance is forced to choose between following Mann or Edmunds. Cooper and Amelia clash, with Cooper accusing her of being compromised by her emotional attachment to Edmunds; Amelia counter-accuses Cooper of being compromised by his desire to see his family again as Endurance can only reach one planet and still return to Earth. The crew find and revive Mann on an icy, ammonia-saturated planet, where he had been stranded with his now-incapacitated multi-purpose robot, KIPP. However, Mann has forged data about the viability of his planet so the Endurance would come and end his isolation. When Cooper decides to return to Earth, Mann attempts to kill Cooper, cracking his helmet and leaving him to die. As Romilly is killed by a booby-trapped KIPP, Mann flees to Endurance with the shuttle, intending to take the population bomb to Edmunds's planet instead. Amelia rescues Cooper, and the two give chase but are unable to prevent Mann from faultily docking with Endurance, which kills Mann when the airlock depressurizes. With TARS's help, Cooper manages to get a damaged Endurance back under control.

Cooper and Amelia formulate a plan to pilot Endurance to Gargantua's event horizon and to jettison TARS once his shuttle runs out of fuel to shed mass and to gather data on the singularity behind the black hole, which they hope to relay back to Earth. Once the robot transmits the data back to them, they would slingshot themselves on a course to Edmunds's planet. Cooper also releases his shuttle into Gargantua to reduce the Endurance's weight, allowing Amelia to escape the gravitational pull. He ejects before his craft is destroyed, and comes to a halt in an extra-dimensional space where time is not linear. Cooper realises the extra-dimensional beings are in fact a future form of humanity who have evolved to the point of transcending three-dimensional time and space, and have come back in time to create the wormhole to ensure humanity's survival. Now equipped with TARS's data on the singularity, Cooper is able to communicate with Murph across the dimensional barrier from inside a tesseract through gravitational waves, making him the "ghost" from her childhood. With this information, Murph is able to complete Brand's equation, allowing Earth's population to be evacuated.

His mission now complete, Cooper is transported back through the wormhole and rescued by a NASA ship. He awakens aboard the NASA station orbiting Saturn and is reunited with an elderly Murph. She convinces him to go to Amelia, who has located the remains of Edmunds's expedition and a planet that can sustain life. After saying goodbye, he steals a NASA ship and begins the journey.

The Giver

In the year 2048, after a war, the community has decided to get rid of different races and feelings. All the citizens have had their memories erased; except for the Receiver of Memory. Since the Receiver of Memory is the only individual in the community who has the memories from before, he must advise the Chief Elder, and the other Elders, on the decisions for the community.

Jonas is a 16 year old teenager who is anxious about the job he will be assigned (along with everyone else). He has two best friends: Asher and Fiona.

On the day of graduation, Everyone is assigned their jobs. Jonas is briefly skipped, as he has not been assigned a job. Instead, Jonas is to become the next Receiver of Memory, and progressively receive memories from the past receiver, The Giver. Upon assuming his role as The Receiver, Jonas learns of the Giver's past and of his child, Rosemary. She preceded Jonas as Receiver of Memory, and was so distraught from the memories that she committed suicide, by what the Community call releasing. They regard its nature as mysterious; the audience learn that it is death by lethal injection. Jonas begins to teach his findings to his friend Fiona, who he decides to share the idea of feelings with. Fiona is unsure of how she feels about feelings, but they kiss while together privately.

Jonas also shares his memories with the baby his father brought home to their house, Gabe, and develops a close relationship with him after discovering he shares the same mark on his wrist Jonas does, the mark of a potential Receiver of Memory. Jonas decides that everyone should have the memories of the past and eventually, the Giver and Jonas decide that the only way they can help the community is to go past the border of what they call Elsewhere, beyond the community, therefore releasing the memories back into the community. Jonas sneaks out at curfew, and decides to get Gabe at the Nurturing Center, who is to be released of weakness. Asher, his other longtime friend besides Fiona, tries to stop him before he leaves the neighborhood, but Jonas quickly punches him. Asher lies on the ground, stunned, and Jonas rides his bike to the Nurturing Center. He tells Fiona his plan and wants to take her with him, but she refuses and instead helps him retrieve Gabe. Before he leaves, she kisses him and helps him escape.

Meanwhile Jonas's mother and Asher, go to the Chief Elder to tell them Jonas is missing. Guards are sent to contain Jonas, who they say has become "dangerous", but Jonas gets one of their motorcycles and drives off the cliff near the Giver's dwelling into "The Elsewhere". Asher is assigned, by the Chief Elder, to use a drone to find Jonas and "lose" him but when Asher finds Jonas stumbling through the woods, he captures him with the drone. After Jonas implores Asher to think that if he ever cared for Jonas to let him go, Asher drops him into a river, setting him free. Jonas stumbles through the land of Elsewhere, while Fiona has been condemned to be "released" for helping him. Just as she is about to be released by Jonas's father, the Giver steps in and stalls the Chief Elder with memories of his daughter, Rosemary, trying to call out the Chief Elder, in which she succeeded. Eventually, Jonas finds a sled like one he rode in a memory from the Giver and makes his way beyond the border of Elsewhere, releasing memories and color back into the community and saving Fiona because Jonas's father realizes what he was really doing. Jonas and Gabe return to the house of his memories, where people are singing Christmas carols, and his voiceover says that back in the community, he swears he hears music too, or possibly just an echo.

Twenty-six years later on the planet Morag, Quill steals an orb, after which he is intercepted by Korath, a subordinate to the fanatical Kree, Ronan. Although Quill escapes with the orb, Yondu discovers his theft and issues a bounty for his capture, while Ronan sends the assassin Gamora after the orb.

The Nova Corps arrives and arrests all four, imprisoning them in the Kyln. While there, a powerful inmate, Drax, attempts to kill Gamora due to her association with Ronan, who killed his family. Quill dissuades him by saying that Gamora can bring Ronan to him, at which point Gamora reveals that she has betrayed Ronan, unwilling to let him use the orb's power to destroy entire planets such as Xandar. Learning that Gamora has a buyer for the orb, she, Quill, Rocket, Groot, and Drax work together to escape from the Kyln.

Elsewhere, Ronan meets with Gamora's adoptive father, Thanos, to discuss her betrayal and the loss of the orb. Accompanied by Drax, Quill's group escapes the Kyln in his ship – the Milano – and flee to Knowhere, a remote criminal outpost in space built in the giant severed-head of a Celestial. A drunken Drax summons Ronan while the rest of the group meet Gamora's contact, the collector Taneleer Tivan. Tivan opens the orb, revealing an Infinity Stone, an item of immeasurable power that destroys all but the most powerful beings who wield it. Suddenly, Tivan's tormented assistant grabs the Stone, triggering an explosion that engulfs Tivan's archive.

Ronan arrives and easily defeats Drax, while the others flee by ship, pursued by Ronan's followers and Gamora's sister Nebula. Nebula destroys Gamora's ship, leaving her floating in space, and Ronan's forces leave with the sphere. Quill contacts Yondu before following Gamora into space, giving her his helmet to survive; Yondu arrives and retrieves the pair. Rocket, Drax, and Groot threaten to attack Yondu's ship to rescue them, but Quill negotiates a truce by convincing Yondu that they can recover the orb. The group agrees that facing Ronan means certain death, yet despite that they also understand they must stop him from using the Infinity Stone to destroy the galaxy. On Ronan's flagship, the Dark Aster, Ronan embeds the Stone in his warhammer, taking its power for himself. He contacts Thanos, threatening to kill him after the destruction of Xandar; hateful of her adopted father, Nebula allies with Ronan.

Near Xandar, the Dark Aster is confronted by the Ravagers, the Nova Corps, and Quill's group, with Quill's group breaching the Dark Aster. While Ronan uses his empowered warhammer to destroy the Nova Corps fleet, Drax kills Korath. On the Dark Aster, after Gamora defeats Nebula (who escapes), she unlocks Ronan's chambers, but the group finds themselves outmatched by his power until Rocket crashes the Milano through the Dark Aster and into Ronan. The damaged Dark Aster crash-lands on Xandar, with Groot sacrificing himself to shield the group. Ronan emerges from the wreck and prepares to destroy Xandar, but Quill distracts him, allowing Drax and Rocket to destroy Ronan's warhammer. Quill grabs the freed Stone, and with Gamora, Drax, and Rocket sharing its burden, they use it to disintegrate Ronan.

In the aftermath, Quill tricks Yondu into taking a container supposedly containing the Stone, then gives the real Stone to the Nova Corps. As the Ravagers leave Xandar, Yondu remarks that it turned out well that they did not deliver Quill to his father per their contract. Quill's group, now known as the Guardians of the Galaxy, have their criminal records expunged, and Quill learns that he is only half-human, his father being part of an ancient, unknown species. Quill finally opens the last present he received from his mother: a cassette tape filled with her favorite songs. The Guardians leave in the rebuilt Milano along with a sapling cut from Groot.

Ouija

The film focuses on Laine (Olivia Cooke), her sister Sarah (Ana Coto) and their friends, Pete (Douglas Smith), Trevor (Daren Kagasoff), and Isabelle (Bianca A. Santos) who try to contact the spirit of their friend Debbie (Shelley Hennig), who had committed suicide by hanging.

The film starts off with young Laine and Debbie playing and messing around with a Ouija board. Trying to contact a spirit as they consider the board "just a game". But to no avail, they do not contact any apparent spirits.

Flash forward into present day, Debbie had killed herself at home after burning a Ouija board. Her family is unwilling to stay in the house and leave Laine to housesit for the time being. Laine encourage the others to try to contact Debbie’s spirit via a Ouija board that she had discovered in Debbie's room, unaware that this is what led Debbie to her death. Laine warns her friends that they must always say goodbye before they finish playing and that they should not use the board in a graveyard.

Initially the group believes that they have contacted Debbie as they receive the message “hi friend”. But they quickly discover that the entity they have contacted is extremely malicious. The entity terrorizes the group and kills Isabelle. The group determines that the only way to find out what is going on is to investigate the house, which results in them discovering that a woman supposedly murdered her child Doris (Sierra Heuermann) at that same location. Laine and the others manage to locate Doris’s sister Paulina (Lin Shaye), who has been living in an insane asylum for years. Paulina informs them that her mother frequently contacted spirits and turned evil, going so far as to sew Doris’s mouth shut. She further states Doris’s corpse is still in the basement of the house and that the only way to stop everything is to remove the stitches from the corpse’s mouth.

The group rushes to do this and stop the mother’s reign of terror, only for them to find that this is unsuccessful as Doris is the true evil spirit haunting the group. They seek additional assistance from Laine’s grandmother (Vivis Colombetti), who tells them that the only way to stop the ghost is to burn the corpse and Ouija board. This proves easier said than done, as Doris manages to kill Pete and Trevor before Debbie’s spirit intervenes and protects Laine from being killed as well. Laine manages to destroy both articles and she and Sarah escape - only to find the planchette from the Ouija board waiting for her at home.

Into The Storm

A group of high school students are in a car together as a storm is brewing. When the storm gets worse, the kids look up ahead and see a tornado approaching. A girl begs for them to go, but the boy recording on a camera gets out to video tape the tornado. He gets back in the car, but the tornado picks them up before they can escape, killing them all.

In the town of Silverton, Oklahoma, the local high school senior class is preparing for graduation. The high school's vice-principal, Gary Fuller, has asked his two sons, Trey and Donnie, to record messages from the seniors for a time capsule to be opened in 25 years. Elsewhere, Pete, a veteran storm chaser, has been attempting to intercept and film tornadoes using a heavily armored vehicle nicknamed Titus, but has come up short all year long. Upon learning of a major line of developing storms, the chasers confer and decide to head for Silverton in hopes of filming tornadoes. After arriving in Silverton, the team discovers that the cell they had been chasing has dissipated, upsetting Pete. As the team reconvenes to determine its next move, the Silverton cell abruptly strengthens, resulting in a hailstorm and tornado. As the team films, the funnel abruptly shifts course and heads for the high school.

At the high school, the senior students are participating in commencement ceremonies when the weather suddenly sours. Moments later, the tornado sirens sound, and the students are subsequently marshaled into the school building by the head principal and his staff. In the aftermath of the tornado, shaken students emerge from the damaged building to view the destruction, while Gary sets out to rescue his eldest son, who had gone to an abandoned paper mill to help a friend with a project; both were subsequently trapped when the tornado brought the building down on them.

As Pete's storm chase team stops in a small part of town, a tornado takes shape just as Gary and Trey arrive, destroying several buildings. Everyone except Gary and Pete's meteorologist Allison Stone make it to safety, while the two are almost killed before the twister dissipates. Then, after Gary pleads for help, Pete's team agree to help Gary get to the paper mill. While en route to the mill, another round of erratic tornadoes forms and encircles Pete's team, in the process destroying a residential neighborhood and a car lot. An explosion turns the tornado into a firenado, which Jacob (Jeremy Sumpter) tries to film, only to be caught up in the storm and is killed. This causes friction between Pete and his team, as Pete's concern seems to be more on collecting data than ensuring his team's safety. After recovering their vehicles, Allison leaves with Gary to continue their trip to the paper mill.

At the mill, the two trapped students attempt to use their phones to call for help, but the storm's devastation has rendered the phones almost useless. To make matters worse, a water pipe abruptly breaks and begins to flood the hole in which the two are trapped. Injured and at risk of drowning the two record messages for their loved ones, then prepare for the worst. At the last minute, Gary and Allison arrive and successfully free the two students. In the skies above Silverton, a convergence of tornadoes results in a colossal EF5 tornado that threatens to level the town. The town's citizens have taken shelter at the school, and Pete's team, however, determines that the school's storm shelter will be inadequate in the face of the monstrous tornado. Unable to alert the school's staff with mobile devices, Pete's team rushes to the school to notify the citizens that they must evacuate. While citizens rush to board school buses to flee the advancing storm, Pete and his team move to track and follow the storm, but the last school bus and a handful of cars are cut off from the retreat due to a downed transmission tower.

In an attempt to improvise a shelter, the storm chasers and school refugees take cover in a storm drain, but debris from the tornado damages one of the storm grates, compromising the shelter. In an attempt to save lives, Pete hands over his research hard drives, then sacrifices himself by leaving the shelter to move Titus down to the storm grate, where a combination of the vehicle's weight, ground anchors, and winch cable are used to anchor the storm grate to the concrete face. Titus's equipment proves unable to anchor the vehicle to the ground, and the tornado picks up the vehicle. From the camera turret aboard Titus, Pete observes the eye of the tornado as the vehicle is lifted above the clouds and it then crashes back down to the storm drain, killing him instantly. Shortly thereafter, the EF5 tornado dissipates. In the aftermath of the tornado outbreak, the townspeople begin efforts to clean up and rebuild. As Gary's sons move to complete their time capsule film, many of those they interview after the tornadoes express a newfound appreciation for their lives, and a hopeful outlook on life.

The Maze Runner

A boy wakes up inside a rusty elevator that was in the water for hours. When he arrives at the top, he is greeted by other unfamiliar boys in a grassy clearing called the Glade, which is surrounded by tall, stone walls. The boy is unable to remember anything about himself. Alby, the leader of the Glade, tells him that his condition is normal and that he should remember his name soon. He shows him the Glade and how it is run. The boy wonders what is beyond the opening in the wall adjacent to the Glade, but he is warned not to go through there, being that it is a maze. The boy meets Chuck, and the two become friends.

There is a party that night to welcome the newest arrival. Every month, a new person and supplies come in the elevator. Newt, second in command and gardener, explains that the Maze is the only way out. The most able boys become Runners, who are the only ones allowed into the Maze. They search for an escape route during the day, but return before nightfall, since the Maze entrance closes at dusk, and no one has ever survived a night in the Maze. The boy ends up in a fight with a boy named Gally, during which he suddenly remembers his name: Thomas.

While Thomas is gathering supplies in the woods, he is viciously attacked by Ben, a Runner, who has been stung by a Griever—deadly slug-like monsters with metal legs that lurk in the maze at night. The boys decide to "banish" Ben, forcing him into the Maze to die. Minho, a runner, and Alby attempt to retrace Ben's steps in the maze, but Alby is stung and rendered unconscious. Minho appears at dusk, dragging Alby towards, but is unable to reach the entrance in time. Seeing this, Thomas runs into the maze to try and help. All three boys survive the night, with Thomas successfully killing a Griever by tricking it into running into a closing wall, squashing the griever, and they return the next day with Alby to the astonishment of the other boys.

Gally, upset that the fragile peace between the boys and the Grievers may be in jeopardy, proposes punishing Thomas for entering the maze, though Newt overrules him and makes Thomas a Runner. Thomas accompanies Minho and a few others into the maze. They find the Griever's corpse and remove a beeping mechanical part, discovering that it is numbered to correspond to a certain section in the maze. The first ever girl arrives in the elevator, who apparently recognizes Thomas. A note indicates that she is the final person that will be sent. The girl, named Teresa, carries two syringes filled with a mysterious substance. The Gladers use one on Alby, and he gradually recovers from his sting and starts to regain his memories.

Minho and Thomas venture into the section of the maze on the Griever's part, discovering an escape route. They barely make it back after being forced to retreat, and inform the others. That night, a wave of Grievers pour in from the walls and attack the Gladers, killing a cured Alby, among many others. Thomas stabs himself in the leg with a severed sting and remembers that he and Teresa were part of the organization that created the maze, and that all of this was a test. Gally blames Thomas and Teresa for everything and attempts to execute them. The Gladers stop him, and most of them follow Thomas through the maze's escape route. They end up in a lab with the dead bodies of scientists strewn everywhere. A video recording of a woman plays, explaining that the planet has been destroyed by increased solar activity, followed by a pandemic. The youths in the Glade were all part of an experiment researching their apparent resistance to the pandemic. At the end of the recording, she shoots herself in the head as the lab is attacked. Gally then appears, delirious from being stung and seeking revenge on Thomas. He fires a gun at Thomas, but Minho stabs Gally with a spear. Chuck is killed by Gally's shot. Masked men rush in to take the group away to safety, with Gally watching before falling unconscious or died. The maze is revealed to be in a vast desert. The dead scientists appear alive, stating that the experiment has been a success, and the survivors are now entering Phase Two.
